Ormond Beach is located just north of Daytona Beach on Florida’s Atlantic Coast. It offers a premier resort experience without sacrificing its small-town charm. Millionaire John Rockefeller was one of Ormond Beach’s first settlers. Ormond Beach was established by John Rockefeller and offers visitors elegant relaxation. However, Ormond Beach also provides easy access to nearby destinations like Daytona Beach, just over an hour away, or Orlando. Ormond Beach, bordered by the Tomoka River to the west and the Atlantic Ocean to the east, is an excellent location for many water-related activities. Residents can enjoy a wide range of cultural and recreational activities throughout the year, as well as the delights of the historic downtown on Granada Boulevard.
Ormond Beach, Florida, is located in Volusia County. At the 2010 census, there were 38,137 people. Ormond Beach, the northern neighbor to Daytona Beach, is home to Tomoka State Park. It is the principal city of Deltona-Daytona Beach–Ormond Beach Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Ormond’s attractive white beaches made it a popular destination for wealthy people seeking to escape the harsh northern winters. In 1886, St. Johns and Halifax Railways were established. The first bridge over the Halifax River was constructed in 1887. James Downing Price and John Anderson opened the Ormond Hotel in January 1888. Henry Flagler purchased the hotel and increased its capacity to 600 guests in 1890. It was one of several Gilded Age hotels Henry Flagler built to accommodate passengers on his Florida East Coast Railway. The company had also purchased the St. Johns & Halifax Railroad. The hotel, once a landmark that was placed on the National Register of Historic Places (in 1980), was demolished in 1992.
